Bone-Ito Bone Broth
Organic, Gluten-Free and Paleo
Matthew Hart and Debby Paculaba Degamo
Quite honestly, we have seen Matthew at other food fairs, but never stopped at his booth. After reading so many glowing recommendations about Bone-Ito’s products, when we saw Matthew and Debby at the fair again, we had to stop.
After sampling some gyoza dumplings, we had to buy some. They did not last the hour. We immediately went to sit by the river to picnic on our snack. Honestly, I could have eaten a dozen more they were so good. Besides organic bone broth, they offer eggrolls, lumpia, gyoza dumplings, and other Filipino food. For dessert, try their cinnamon rolls. And guess what, they deliver!!
Cuenca Bagels: Cuenca's Original Microbagelry
Address: Pdte Cordova 9 80 y Padre Aguirre Dept 2
One thing I really miss in Budapest is a good bagel. After seeing Cuenca Bagels on Gringo Post, I was tempted, but hesitant. I did not want to be disappointed yet again. However, after seeing multiple recommendations, I decided we had to give them a try. Thankfully, we took the plunge.
They produce many types of bagels. Other than the usual plain, sesame, poppy, onion, garlic, cinnamon raisin, they have artisanal bagels as well. With more than 10% of the additional ingredients added to the dough, these Parmesan and Asiago cheese, with or without chili, black olive, chocolate chunk, chocolate with chili are really incredible.
You can order bagels in one of three sizes. Prebaked weights are at least 100 grams, 125 grams, or 150 grams. There is a bonus with an order of a Baker's Dozen or more. I found Rich is from New Jersey, so of course he knows bagels! Some of these are going to Budapest as well.
Gail makes wonderful date bars, eclairs, zucchini muffins and some chocolate bar that is to die for or will kill you if you eat too much of it. She is often at the food or craft shows, but don’t wait. Call or e-mail her to order something delicious.
She is a native English speaker and pastry chef, so she will arrange for delivery. *We love her date bars and the chocolate death bar. She arranges delivery.
Kupi Gourmet Products
We are seriously bad when sampling food items, but then never making a purchase. More often than not, the food item tastes good when sampled, but it loses something on the way home. Then buyer’s remorse sets in. Well, this is not the case with Kupi. We bought a bottle of two of the products on offer: oregano with chili in olive oil and bell pepper dressing.
Hint: Put the oregano with chili on some good bread, and then top it with a slice of mozzarella cheese and a thin slice of tomato. Put it in the toaster oven for a heavenly flavor.
The bell pepper has a roasted pepper flavor that is so good, I could drink it from the bottle. Had my wallet not been close to the "E" for empty mark, I would have bought more.
Sophie's Handmade Food Products
I spotted Sophie first on Gringo Post where she offered three loaves of her artisan bread for $10 if picked up at a food fair. I decided to try her carrot/oat bread and her multigrain with chia along with other good things. The loaves are extra-large, but honestly, they are so good, they do not last long. The multigrain makes delicious French toast. They freeze really well, so I intend to bring some back to Budapest when we leave.
Sophie delivers Tuesdays to Fridays only. You can place orders any day of the week, from 7am to 6pm, but give at least 48 hours (2 days) notice to ensure proper delivery time and availability of ingredients. Delivery is free for orders over $10 or a $3 delivery charge for orders under $10. You may also arrange to pick up your order. If you e-mail Sophie, she will send you a current price list with all of her offerings of breads, cookies and more.
